Lesson 10

Lesson Title:  The Book that Saved the Band - Lesson 10

Synopsis: Create a multimedia presentation (video, slide show) to include director, fashion, set design, choreography

Interdisciplinary Pairing

  • Primarily Language Arts
  • Secondary subjects include:
    • Music

    • Graphic Design (Art)

Objectives:

  • Students will learn about multimedia presentation techniques such as video, or slide show (PowerPoint), to be used in outlets such as Myspace, Google Video, and/or YouTube
  • The band selects a multimedia venue.
  • The band designs and creates their presentation
  • Optional:  premier the presentation to the class and others.

Intended Grade Level:

Middle School

Prior Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Completion of all or most of the prior lessons – 1 through 9.

Equipment

  • Equipment as required and as used in previous lessons:
    • Digital camera or scanner to scan printed photos.
    • Optional: Digital photo editing software such as iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, etc.
    • Play back equipment for the CD party (CD player with speakers, Boombox).

Duration: 

Any length of time as desired. Students can choose to follow-up and can choose multimedia techniques.  The teacher should be directly involved.

Procedure:

  • Complete some or all of the procedures in Lesson 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, lessons 8 and 9 optional [add a direct link to each lesson]
  • The student group members (the band) will develop their band public image in terms of style, props, costumes, and so forth.
  • Students will determine the multimedia technique and then learn about how to use and implement it.
  • Students will create a multimedia presentation where the band incorporates their music, lyrics, image and product
  • Students will premier their work

Evaluation:

  • Completed presentation.
  • Include a rubric to evaluate process not just the product (optional)
