Materials:
-Musica, die ganz lieblich Kunst by Johann Jeep, edited by John Leavitt
-Musica Sibelius worksheets.
-Blank manuscript worksheet
Objectives:
-Students will demonstrate understanding of 2/2 time through clapping and counting of rhythms.
-Students will demonstrate understanding of 2/2 time in context of song.
Procedures:
-Teacher will create rhythm excerpts from Musica with Sibelius and blank manuscript.
-Students will echo clap and count rhythms of various time signatures.
-Teacher will teach 2/2 time signature and notation.
-Students will clap and count rhythms in 2/2 time.
-Students will take dication of rhythm patterns using notation.
-Students will clap and count Musica Sibelius rhythm excerpt.
-Students will count and clap Musica rhythm from original score.
Evaluation:
-Student participation.
-Student dictation worksheet.
Follow Up:
-Create Scorch file of worksheets for posting to school web site for homework use.
-Record student quartets for assessment of rhythmic understanding.
