Materials:

The students will need a copy of the Instrumental Warm ups that their class mates have created in the Lesson Plan: Warm Ups for Instrumental Lessons.

Objectives:

The students will create a piano/organ accompaniment, using the notation software and the piano keyboard, of the warm ups that were created by the instrumental students.

Procedures:

The students will be given a warm up written by one of the Instrumental students. This student will look over the notes to get an Idea of what chords to use to provide an accompaniment.

The students will be instructed to only use I,IV V7,ii,and vi chords, keeping it simple.

The students will use the notation program to create and record the accompaniment. They will playback the accompaniment along with the warm up(all os one piece) to hear how it sounds.

Teacher will here each accompaniment to ensure good chord choices and voicings.

The students will burn onto a CD only the accompaniment part that they have created, to give to the band director so that he/she can use this for the instrumental students to play along to , that had originally created the warm ups.

Evaluation:

the students will first be able to hear their accompaniment when they play it back for themselves when they are creating it to see of they like their created accompaniment or wish to change it.

Teacher will have heard the accompaniments provided by the students and can change or give advice as to which chord should be changed or if the voicing should be different.

Their theory taecher, if different that music technology teacher, can also preview the accomnpaniment befor it is burnt onto a CD to also offer his/her evaluation or feedback on the created accompaniments.

Follow Up:

When the instrumental students creat e more rhythmically complex warm ups with bigger melodic ranges, these theory students can then do the same project that they just have completed for the newer warm ups.
