Mike Lawson

Executive Director

A founding participant of TI:ME since 1997, Mike is a lifelong professional musician and audio engineer with a deep passion and dedication for music education. Former editor (now owner) of School Band & Orchestra + Magazine (SBO+) and MMR Magazine. Mike was a Grammy Trustee, publisher of over 200 books/videos on audio/music production, and has released eight albums in his career featuring multiple RnR Hall of Fame members and others. Mike still performs over 30 shows a year as a guitarist/vocalist.

Will Kuhn

President

Will Kuhn is a Cincinnati-based music technology teacher, producer, author and Ableton Certified Trainer focused on revitalizing the field of music education using the latest creative tools. He teaches music production courses at the University of Cincinnati CCM and at Lebanon High School. His books, Interactive Composition (with VJ Manzo) and Electronic Music School (with Ethan Hein) are widely used texts on music production. 

Mark Lochstampfor

Vice President

Dr. Mark Lochstampfor is Professor Emeritus at Capital University, previously teaching music and serving as Chair and Interim Dean of the Conservatory of Music. He has taught at The Ohio State University and other institutions, holds positions in music organizations, and has worked as an organist in Ohio. Currently, he is the Executive Director of Pi Kappa Lambda and President of the Island Concert Association. While retired from full-time teaching, he reviews college music programs and remains active as a composer and performer. He holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory, an M.M., an M.B.A., and a B.M. in Composition.

Barbara Freedman

Treasurer

Named the 2012 TI:ME Music Technology Teacher of the Year, Barbara Freedman has been teaching Electronic Music & Audio Engineering at Greenwich High School in Connecticut since 2001. She is the author of the book “Teaching Music Through Composition: A Curriculum Using Technology” published by Oxford University Press. She is also a consultant to schools and districts on music technology and labs,a trainer and frequent presenter/clinician at local, state and national in-service conferences and events. Barbara’s motto,”Teach music. The Technology will follow.” has become the rallying cry for music technology teachers around the world.

Richard McCready

Secretary

Richard teaches music technology at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland, and is also the music technology resource teacher for Howard County, Maryland. McCready was born in Northern Ireland and studied tuba performance, vocal performance, piano, and composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, England, and at Towson University in Maryland. His work at River Hill High School was featured in a feature article for School Band and Orchestra in April 2013. He writes curriculum and lessons for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the International Baccalaureate, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American Culture, the Maryland State Department of Education, and Howard County Public Schools.

Robby Burns

Robby Burns is a music educator, freelance percussionist, and technology specialist based in Ellicott City, Maryland. He teaches band and general music at Ellicott Mills Middle School in the Howard County Public School System. Robby previously co-directed the Howard County Middle School GT Honor Band and maintains a thriving private percussion studio out of his home, with students who have gone on to pursue music degrees, perform professionally, and participate in state and district honor ensembles. He is frequently invited to serve as an adjudicator, arranger, and clinician for schools and music organizations throughout the region.

Dave Gerhart

Member At-Large

Dr. Dave Gerhart, the Artist Relations Partner for Yamaha Corporation, is not just a performer and composer, but also a dedicated educator. His national recognition in the music industry is a result of his multifaceted talents. Gerhart holds a D.M.A. from the University of Southern California, an M.M. in Percussion Performance and Instrumental Conducting, and a B.M. in Music Education from California State University, Long Beach. Before joining Yamaha, Gerhart was a Yamaha Performing Artist. He continues to share his passion for music as an educator and performer. Dave serves on the Board of Advisors and the University Pedagogy Committee for the Percussive Arts Society, and his steel drum ensemble, the Island Hoppin’ Steel Drum Band, performs throughout Southern California.

Gillian Keller

Gillian Keller teaches K-12 Music Production and Engineering at Maplewood Public Schools in Maplewood, MN. She was recently named 2024 Yamaha “40 Under 40” Music Educator, 2024 TI:ME Teacher of the Year and MDE Minnesota Changemaker. Gillian has been nationally recognized for her work in electronic composition, and is an keynote speaker, clinician, and adjudicator for state and international music conferences and competitions. She has collaborated with companies such as Ableton Live, Yamaha, Zildjian, Novation, and Jamstik to design new music technologies and curriculum for the classroom. As a music technology graduate student at New York University, she continues to perform IRB research in collaboration with Dr. Alex Ruthmann, Director of the NYU MusEDLab, for developing curriculum, new music ensembles and web applications. 

Kevin Longwill

Kevin Longwill is an educator and musician based in the Philadelphia suburbs. He is a member of the music faculty in the Abington School District, where his coursework focuses on music industry and artist development. Additionally, Kevin is the director of M3 (Modern Music Makers); Abington’s music industry program which features a student-run record label, production company, and performing ensembles. He also serves on the faculty at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance, where his coursework focuses on music education and application within the music industry. Kevin frequently works as a presenter, clinician, and consultant to assist students, educators, and districts in developing music industry and commercial music programs in schools.

VJ Manzo

V.J. Manzo is Professor of Music Technology and Cognition at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). V.J. is author of several books published by Oxford University Press including Max/MSP/Jitter for Music, Foundations of Music Technology, and co-author of Interactive Composition and Environmental Sound Artists. He has created numerous software projects including the Modal Object Library, a collection of programming objects to control harmony in algorithmic and electro-acoustic compositions, and EAMIR, an open-source project and non-profit charity organization that supports composition, performance, education, and research through accessible technology-based musical instruments. At WPI, he is the founding director and PI of the RATLab, a research collective at WPI focusing on the convergence of music and technology through two of his labs: the Electric Guitar Innovation Lab (EGIL), and the Interactive Music Systems Lab (IMSLab), and a co-director of the Media Arts Group Innovation Center (MAGIC).

Jennifer Paisley-Schuch

Jennifer Paisley is the Trade Show and Partnerships Director for Alfred Music. She holds a Bachelor in Music from the Crane School of Music and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the State University of New York at Potsdam. For the past 17 years she has worked in the music products industry with a focus in trade shows, events and music education advocacy.

Floyd Richmond

Member At-Large

Dr. Floyd Richmond began his teaching career in 1980 as a high school band director and has taught all areas of K-12 music, and most in higher education.  He has held long-term teaching positions in Mississippi, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas, and short-term consulting positions in Ohio, Massachusetts, and Florida.

He holds a doctorate of arts in music from Ball State University and also attended Indiana University, Mississippi College and Delta Sate University. He is the author, editor or chapter author of approximately ten books. He has operated various musical businesses profitably since 1983.  He is a composer, songwriter, arranger and performer, and has produced numerous recordings.

He served as president of TI:ME from 2016-2018 and as conference chair for ATMI/CMS in 2004 and 2019.  He studied tuba with renowned performers, Harvey Phillips, Barton Cummings, and Denis Royal.  He currently coordinates the music business program, teaches tuba and is the Area Coordinator for Music at Tarleton State University.

Ryan Van Bibber

Member At-Large

Ryan Van Bibber teaches music and audio production at the Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center in Columbus City Schools and at Columbus State Community College. He previously taught instrumental and general music in grades 3-12. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Ohio University, a Master of Arts in Music Education from The Ohio State University, and a Master Certificate in Music Writing and Production from the Berklee College of Music Online.

Ryan is an Avid Certified Instructor for Pro Tools (Operator|Music) and a member of TI:ME and AES. He regularly puts on clinics and workshops in Ohio and around the US on all things music tech-related. Ryan plays the trumpet and enjoys creating electronic music. He lives in Columbus with his piano-teacher wife and four musical children.
