Clap and Play rhythms
TI:ME Technology Areas Addressed:
Sibelius or other music writing program to create worksheets.
Prior Knowledge and Skills:
This lesson is designed for elementary band students,
with some ability and knowledge of eighth and quarter note rhythms.
Students also should have had some, introduction in counting rhythms from weekly lesson work and knowledge of time signatures in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 meter.

Students will be able to: Clap rhythms in 2/4,3/4,4/4 time signatures when led by teacher.
Students will be able to: write the counting under each eight note and quarter note pattern when led by teacher.
Students will be able to: Perform selected rhythm patterns using their instruments or by singing, when led by teacher.
Using the board review the proper way to notate various rhythm patterns.
Clap or perform the same rhythms with the class.
Demonstrate common mistakes: not observing the time signature, not starting each measure with a (1) or leaving a beat or part a beat blank.
Hand out worksheets for the students to complete.
Collect all worksheets and check the accuracy.
Rhythms in different meters.
Rhythms using note values, shorter than an eight note.
