A basic knowledge of Pro Tools Expertise on an instrument or as a vocalist

MENC Standards Addressed:

MENC 1: Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
MENC 2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
MENC 4: Composing and Arranging Music within specified guidelines.
MENC 6: Listening to, analyzing and describing music.

Materials:

Microphones and cables Pro Tools Electric keyboard

Objectives:

1. Main objective – compose a composition combining the talents of the entire Music Tech class 2. Each student will record a track on a Pro Tools session by playing their instrument or singing 3. The drummer will lay down the track first 4. After all the tracks are done, edit the composition as a class

Procedures:

1. Teach the Music Tech class the basics of Pro Tools (3 to 5 class periods) 2. Play some professional recordings including a variety of styles for the class as examples of good recordings 3. Set-up the microphones and the correct cables in preparation for the recording sessions 4. Be sure Pro Tools is in good working order

Evaluation:

1. Effort of each individual student to do his/her best 50% 2. Knowledge of program 25% 3. Ability to work together as a group 25%
