1. Limited use of Finale (tutorials)
2. Able to read music

Materials:

The poem by Pablo Casals “You Are a Marvel”

Objectives:

1. Study musical choices available based on the lyrics of the Pablo Casals poem “You Are a Marvel”
2. Create a composition using Finale with the lyrics of the poem

Procedures:

1. Read the poem and analyze as a class
2. Review the 3 ways to enter notes in Finale
3. Before input begins, discuss form that each student would like to use for their composition
4. Students will begin composing original piece with constant teacher guidance.

Evaluation:

1. Class will listen to each completed composition and critique
2. Each student will receive a letter grade

Follow Up:

1. Transpose compositions using Finale
2. Add instruments to composition
3. Transfer Finale file to Band in a Box and manipulate style sounds
