Prior Knowledge and Skills:
Students have been given the opportunity to experiment with the keyboard and explore the variety o9f sounds the keyboard contains.
MENC Standards Addressed:
MENC 2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
MENC 4: Composing and Arranging Music within specified guidelines.
MENC 8: Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
Materials:
Electronic keyboard, headphones, paper, pencil, art supplies
Objectives:
Students will be able to perform, create, and understand music and sounds using an electronic keyboard.
The students will take a self written story and add life to it by including sounds and pictures and, in some cases, movement.
The assessment of the students work will be based on the context of the written assignment alone, the use of the keyboard and how it relates to the written document and the final presentation using all the aspects together.
The students will demonstrate their understanding of the lesson by providing an oral presentation to the class.
Procedures:
Students will write a short story, poem or play. Theme: Mystery of ghost story (25min)
Students will draw pictures or scenery to represent the written piece. (15 min.)
Students will create sound effects and/or music on the keyboards to be played while the story is being read or performed. (40 min)
Students will present their individual work to the class. (40 min.)
Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on the work they accomplish during each step of the assignment.
Student work will be monitored individually during each class and their overall progress at the end of each class.
The final assessment will be made at eth completion of the presentation.
Follow Up:
Using the skill they have now heard on the keyboard, the students can identify timbre of music and sounds to being to comp-lose a music piece of their own.
