Prior Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to listen and identify song / phrase form

MENC Standards Addressed:

MENC 2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
MENC 5: Reading and notating music.
MENC 6: Listening to, analyzing and describing music.


Students will have to open up Garage Band files from the desktop folders for this assignment on the computers at the lab stations (imacs)
Students will need URL addresses for the Performance Clips of Choral samples of the musical selections from Karl Jenkins


Students should be able to listen to performance while reading score and identify phrase points and song form within the sound file by reading, listening and production software editing.


Students will listen to the Recorded file in Garage Band. – 1st Class 30 minutes
Students will then use the Command + “T” procedure for splitting regions of the song file into phrases which line up with the field show breakdown. – 2nd Class 30 minutes
Students will then watch video clips and review and evaluate the choral performance of the 4 selections. 3rd Class 30 minutes Adiemus Song of Aeolus Palladio Zarabande


Review student GB files to check accuracy of splits they have designated/programmed.
Review written listening evaluations of live performance vocal clips.

Follow Up:

Students will have the opportunity to follow up with other repertoire in the future using the same procedures of this lesson.
