Various internet websites

Objectives:

Using the web quest Mozart quest found on the following web site – http://www.spa3.k12.sc.us/WebQuests/mozart/travel%20log.html, the class will create a Web Quest document designed to explore the life and music of George Gershwin on Microsoft Word.

Procedures:

This lesson will be a work in progress for 3 or 4 consecutive lessons.

  1. Explore and analyze the Mozart web quest mentioned above.
  2. Make a list of questions or tasks that we may want to answer or complete in our Gershwin quest.
  3. Search out sites focusing on the life and music of George Gershwin. Bookmark and copy the url’s that we might want to include.
  4. Gather facts and information that we might want to include along our search for George Gershwin. Record data and links on a Microsoft Word document.
  5. Begin work on our actual web page in Microsoft Word based on the Mozart model mentioned above – include text and appropriate internet links where needed.
  6. Copy and paste in midi, audio, video, or still images where appropriate.
  7. Save document as an html document.
  8. Preview in web browser and review site as class. Evaluate and edit, making any desired changes, additions, deletions or modifications as desired.
  9. When complete, post on school internet music pages web site for all the world to see!

Evaluation:

On going teacher guided group self evaluation throughout the activity.

Follow Up:

Additional web quest creation projects about other composers or appropriate general music topics.
