General knowledge of current musical styles, and computer acumen to use a browser, search engine and other digital search
tools.

MENC Standards Addressed:

MENC 7: Evaluating music and music performances.
MENC 8: Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
MENC 9: Understanding Music in Relation to History and Culture

Materials:

Encarta references (encyclopedia, *Encarta Africana, etc.);
Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians; and student versions
of level one sources.

Objectives:

Students will accumulate a listing of ‘prominent’ blues artists,
their regional orientation (if any) and influence on music culture.
(Who’s Who)

Procedures:

Students will receive a itemized checklist that notates the usual
biographical data. The extended information :music education,
relocation to another city, known contacts with other musicians in the same or different genre(s). Provision for additional pertinent data and/or recognition from the music world.

Evaluation:

Required ‘3’ personalities researched. Complete annotation of material and source information. Presentation of mini-report to
class. Musical example of each personality.

Follow Up:

Time capsule on other periods both ancient and contemporary where students can compile a personal book of Music History.
