A Computer Lab with Print Music software installed.

Duration:

30 Minutes

Prior Knowledge and Skills:

The students have been taught basic note and rest values, and to read notes on the treble clef within the staff. The students will have beginner’s knowledge of how to use print music software. They also know how to point and click with a mouse.

MENC Standards Addressed:

MENC 5: Reading and notating music.
MENC 6: Listening to, analyzing and describing music.
MENC 8: Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.

Materials:

Teacher designed worksheet wich opens in Print Music program, and a printer.

Objectives:

The students will be able to:

Click and scroll a mouse.

Copy notes and rests accurately on the staff using the “Simple Entry Tool”.

Compare their writing with the original notation by using playback in a call and echo format.

Procedures:

1. The teacher designs a notation worksheet appropriate for their class level.
2. Using Print Music, write examples for the students to practice copying.
3. Emphasize neatness, placement, and accuracy.

Evaluation:

1. The ability to click and scroll a mouse.
2. The accuracy of copying notes on a staff employing the “Simple Entry Tool”.
3. The skill to listen to and evaluate their own work.
4. Their proficiency at using a music notation program.

Follow Up:

The students will be able to begin entering their own notes and rests to create their own compositions.
