Materials:

Finale Notation Software and computer lab with lesson loaded. Teacher workstation with LCD projector if a lab is unavailable. Paper copy of rhythm sheet if a lab is unavailable.

Objectives:

Students will listen to aural rhythmic examples that have the counts written in below blank measures. Each student will use notation software to enter the correct notation heard. Students will print a finished project for assessment.

Procedures:

Teacher Preparation includes:

1. Generate a rhythm sheet with 25 examples.  2. Enter the counts below the notes using your counting system.  3. Select feature that hides the notes you have entered.  4. Save lesson and load computers.    Student procedures:  1. Listen to rhythm example  one measure at a time.  2. Enter the rhythm heard using the notation software.  3. Replay each measure until satisfied with the notation.  4. Play/clap the examples with the recording to check your work.  5. When complete, print a copy for your teacher.  

Evaluation:

Teacher evaluation of paper copy returned to student. Teacher can display assignment with notation visible. Students compare their work with example displayed. Teacher displays example on screen with class clapping/or playing examples.
