Materials:
Student worksheet, Melody (Finale NotePad File) and Vocabulary List (MS Word File)
Objectives:
1. In the given melodies, students will correctly identify key, range, conjunct and disjunct motion, motive and sequence. 2. Students will correctly identify phrase 1 and 2. 3. Student will analyze the melodies and determine the tonic. 4. Students will use 1 or 2 block chords to harmonize the 4 measure given melodies.
Procedures:
Briefly review the vocabulary list with students using class discussion, question-answer or preferred method of instructor. Refer to previous melodic examples listened to or created in class. Hand out student worksheet to be completed and handed in to the instructor before the end of the class period.
Evaluation:
For review use: Call on students to give their answers to each question. Selected students may play their examples of harmony for the class. Discuss harmonic choices. For test/quiz purposes: Collect papers for a grade.
Follow Up:
If used as a test: Hand back test papers and discuss answers. Call on students to give their answers to each question. Selected students may play their examples of harmony for the class. Discuss harmonic choices. Then: Students may then create their own original melody and basic harmonization, carefully considering range, developmental techniques, motion, phrasing, and tonic. Students will save the file and burn the data to disc or print it out.
