The students need to know how count basic rythymic values.
Whole note, half note, dotted half note.

Materials:

Finale File – Music Tag Composer

Objectives:

I have been teaching instrumental music for 20 years and one of the most common problems is the student’s failure to sustain notes to their full value. This lesson addresses this issue.

The students will learn to hold note values out to their full value.

If performed correctly their music imput will match a specific notated music.

Procedures:

Prior to the lesson the teacher should open the finale file: music tag and set up the quantization of the Hyperscribe tool to eighth notes. Also set up the beat count off to one measure.

The teacher will then show the note G on their midi keyboard to the students.

The teacher will demonstrate how the hyperscribe tool works.

The students will then input their music.

The finale document has a hidden percussion part that will assist the student to hold the their notes out for their full value.

The sound of the whistle indicates the end of the note.

Evaluation:

The students’ music should match the music written above it.

Follow Up:

Students can play music tag with other students see attached file.

Students can see by using a waveform audio editor (Sound Studio, CoolEdit) program how they held out their notes out by recording their performance and looking at their wave files.
