Richard McCready is TI:ME’s 2013 Teacher of the Year

Technology for Music Education is proud to honor music educator Richard McCready with the 2013 Mike Kovins TI:ME Teacher of the Year Award for the numerous ways in which he integrates music technology into music education. An avid educator, performer, author, and clinician, Richard also shares his knowledge, resources, and writings on his websites mustechalley.com and mustech.net. His work with his students has motivated them to post literally hundreds of exceptional musical projects online. (See the links below.)

Richard has been teaching music since 1990 and music technology at River Hill High School in Clarksville, MD since 2008. He is the director of the program at River Hill and oversees an impressive 25-station music technology lab that enables him to integrate music technology into his various classes including those on guitar and keyboard. He is the Resource Teacher for Music Technology for Howard County Public Schools in MD, and trains music staff in 12 high schools and 18 middle schools in teaching music through technology. He is an author, consultant, trainer, and frequent presenter/clinician at local, state, and national in-service conferences and events. He is an active member of TI:ME and has given numerous presentations at TI:ME’s national conferences.  He is a co-author of “Making Music with GarageBand and Mixcraft” published in 2011.

A tireless individual, Richard is active in his community and is a professional performer on piano, organ, guitar, harp, tuba and voice. He did undergraduate and graduate work in England and Ireland at Sullivan Upper School, The Royal Northern College of Music, and Manchester Polytechnic’s Didsbury College of Education. In 1996 he earned a Master of Music degree in Tuba Performance at Towson University and subsequently earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance in 1999.

TI:ME congratulates Richard on his nomination and selection for this prestigious award. We invite you to attend the formal presentation of the award on Friday, February 15th at 12:30PM during the TI:ME Business Meeting at our conference in San Antonio, Texas.
