Prior Knowledge and Skills:
Students know how to search the internet using popular search engines and play CD’s using the computer. The students will have also been working on the performance of the composition “A Movement for Rosa” by Mark Camphouse.

Materials:
Worksheet to guide internet searches, Worksheet with specific questions for the students to answer about the history of Rosa Parks
Objectives:
With the lesson has been completed:
The student will be able to clearly describe the life and historical significance of Rosa Parks to today’s american way of life. The students will also be able to describe why Mr. Camphouse decided to use Rosa Parks as a stubject for his composition “A Movement for Rosa”.
Procedures:
Having been playing the composition “A Movement for Rosa”, the students will be given a worksheet with specific search terms that will lead them to information about both the composition and the history of Rosa Parks. The students will be asked to search for Program Notes for the composition, as well as listen to excerpts of the composition being performed by a professional ensemble. The students will have the entire 90 minutes class period to search for these items, listen to the compositional excerpts, and complete the focus questions given to them at the beginning of the class period.
Evaluation:
The worksheets will be collected and reviewed for both accuracy and detail. The answers will need to be written in complete sentences and using correct grammer. Participation throughout the class period on the given assignment will be assessed through their daily participation grade.
Follow Up:
As work on the composition “A Movement for Rosa” continues in regular daily rehearsal, the students will be asked on a consistant basis to refer back to their research to explain different compositional aspects of the music. The will also be asked refer back to this assignment in their post-concert self-evaluation and critique.
