Prior Knowledge and Skills:
A basic understanding of repetitive techniques: 1st/2nd endings, D.C., D.S., al Fine. Working knowledge of a computer and basic skills with Mass Mover Tool in Finale.
MENC Standards Addressed:
MENC 5: Reading and notating music.
MENC 6: Listening to, analyzing and describing music.
MENC 7: Evaluating music and music performances.
One computer with Finale Notation Software, preferably with Playback capability. Finale Worksheets File – downloadable Zip file.
Student will demonstrate an understanding of repeating techniques by rewriting the notation without using the repetitive devices. Accuracy in the re-write is the measurable goal. Student will display a working knowledge of the Mass Mover tool in Finale.
This is a self-paced individual lesson. Student may need help in getting set up in Finale. The instructions are on the Worksheets. The student will gain skill with use of the Mass Mover Tool in Finale.
Student will be assessed for 100% accuracy in the rewrite of the line without using repeating techniques. (The words will move along with the music therefore only the music should be evaluated in the rewrite.)
Performing music with repetitive techniques. Additional examples of Codas, multiple endings, repeats within a piece.
