Prior Knowledge and Skills:
Students visually able to identify the treble and/or bass clef notes, rhythm durations of eighths, quarter, half, dotted half and whole notes. Rests of the same duration.
Students also able to recognize and sing diatonic patterns using a variety of rhythms.
MENC Standards Addressed:
MENC 5: Reading and notating music.
MENC 7: Evaluating music and music performances.
Materials:
LCD Video Data Projector and screen and Apple computer
Piano and/or electronic synthesizer
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify from previous performance experience correct pitch and rhythm patterns
Procedures:
Two pitch and rhythm examples of 2-4 measures in treble and/or bass clef will be projected on a screen. The teacher will then sing and/or play on an acoustic piano or electronic keyboard one of the examples. The student(s) will then identify the correct example.
Evaluation:
Teacher evaluation of oral answers.
Written test
Follow Up:
Use same format using examples that are more complex rhythmically and/or tonally.
