Duration:
40min Minutes
Prior Knowledge and Skills:
Basic Theory, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8
MENC Standards Addressed:
MENC 4: Composing and Arranging Music within specified guidelines.
MENC 5: Reading and notating music.
MENC 6: Listening to, analyzing and describing music.
Materials:
Teacher generated handout, Smart Board(optional), Rhythm generater/sequencer
Objectives:
Students will be able to notate and compose rhythms within 7/4 and aurally/visually differentiate between 7/4 and other meters.
Procedures:
Students will review rhythmic values in simple meters through aural and visual examples given first by teacher, then by students. (Use of a smart board would be ideal for this).
Students will be shown 7/4, how it works, and given examples visually and aurally.
Students will differentiate between 7/4 and other meters through aural examples performed by the teacher, then more complicated examples preprogrammed into sequencer.
Students will create rhythms in 7/4 and write them on the Smart Board.
Students will be given handout for homework that will reinforce 7/4.
Evaluation:
Homework examples in 7/4 will help determine the students’ knowledge of 7/4 time and their composed examples will further enhance their abilities to work within 7/4 time.
Follow Up:
Reinforce 7/4 time through use of more complex rhythms. Continue with 9/4, 7/8, etc.
