Objectives:
Students will be able to import an .mp3 into Garage Band
Students will be able to add at least 3 tracks to the original .mp3
Students will export a new .mp3
Procedures:
Note: Prior to class place Gravedigger.mp3 on share drive
Note: Attached file is only a 30 second clip. If you want to use the full version is available on the “Some Devil” album by Dave Matthews. If you don’t like the song simply find another mp3, however, i would recommend something with a similar texture so there aren’t many other sounds pre-recorded so the students have space to add whatever they would like.
1) Students open Garage Band
2) Students drag Gravedigger.mp3 into Garage band
3) Students delete original piano track created with new file
4) Students create 3 new tracks underneath
5) Students will experiment with different sounds and how they effect the music
6) After 15 minutes of experimentation time students will have 15 minutes to record their new parts in Garage Band
Note: Have students write down their additions, i.e. Added strings 1:05 into the song
7) Have students export .mp3 and save the share ! folder.
Note: file name format :Class Period/Last Name (3Smith.mp3)
Evaluation:
Students will demonstrate the ability to import an mp3 into garage Band
Students will demonstrate the ability to “tastefully” add at least 3 things to the chosen song
Students will demonstrate the ability to export an mp3 into the share folder
