This lesson is for 4th grade students (or 1st year instrumental music students). They will have the music knowledge from grades K-3.

Materials:
Required worksheet:
Name the Notes (treble staff)
or
Name the Notes (bass staff)
Objectives:
Objectives:
-Students will identify a note as a space note or a line note
-Students will name/label the notes of the treble or bass staff
-Students will draw (identified) notes on the staff
Procedures:
-Using the “Name the Notes” worksheet, students will learn the names of the spaces and lines of the staff….FACE and EGBDF (Every Girl Buys Designer Fashions) or ACEG (All Cows Eat Grass) and GBDFA (Giant Blue Dogs Fly Above)
-Students will identify and label space notes
-Students will identify and label line notes
-Students will draw notes on the staff as directed
Evaluation:
-Group correction of the worksheet will determine mastery

Continued practice with staff reading
