Prior Knowledge and Skills:

Students know that lines and spaces are where notes are placed and read. They know placement for do re mi fa sol and how these intervals sound but they do not know letter names.

MENC Standards Addressed:

MENC 5: Reading and notating music.

Materials:

Alfred Essentials of Music Theory Unit 1 Lesson 2a-j

Objectives:

Students will learn to recognize the treble clef and staff and learn the letter names of notes placed on the lines and spaces.

Procedures:

Students click on each example and listen to the tutorials. Then they will do the exercises which follow to test their understanding and reinforce what they have just seen and heard.

Evaluation:

The teacher will collect their scores from the exercises to determine how well they are retaining the information.

Follow Up:

The lesson will be repeated as necessary with teacher reinforcement.
