Prior Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of Basic notation, percussion instruments, mallets and stroke order.

MENC Standards Addressed:

MENC 2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
MENC 5: Reading and notating music.

Materials:

computer, speakers, sibelius and band in a box and worksheet provided

Objectives:

Students will have the opportunity to play 4 different instruments
in rotation, with this lesson.
Students will play each part using inst. indicated.

Procedures:

With students, review each percussion part.
Assign each student an instrument and let the fun begin.
With less than 4 students, filter part and play though software
program.

Evaluation:

Record student performance and play back to demonstrate their efforts or to point out musical changes that could or need to be made.

Follow Up:

Substitute the parts written to other instruments as desired for a variety of timbres.
Add other instruments as needed or for more students in the percussion section.
Have students create their own music for percussion ensemble.
