Objectives:

Students will:
*play the part for their own instrument alone and with the rest of
the class as an ensemble.
*play a different part on a MIDI keyboard
*use the MIDI keyboard to learn and understand transpositions
*discuss and attempt to reproduce the timbres of a traditional
instrument on a MIDI keyboard

Procedures:

Students will perform a simple instrumental arrangement after which they will be given the part for an instrument which they are not familiar. Students will be introduced to the MIDI keyboard and general MIDI. After practicing their new part with the correct GM patch, each student will perform alone. When all students have performed alone, they will play as a group. Students will discover that although they are playing with the correct timbre, that the music will be out of tune. At this time students will be introduced to transposition and teh process of tuning and transposing on electronic instruments.

Evaluation:

Students will be assessed on:
*their ability to perform on their instrument with correct pitch,
rhythm and style.
*ability to tune their instrument and the MIDI keyboard
*their knowledge of wind and brass transpositions
