1. Brief history of Jazz in America, and when
it developed.
2. Compare and contrast the music of Count Basie,
and Duke Ellington.
Objectives:
Students will be able to articulate a general
knowledge of American Jazz Music,and two composers
of the genre (Count Basie, Duke Ellington)

Procedures:
Hand out The Jazz Music Scavenger Hunt worksheet
and tell students to use the internet to complete
the worksheet by the end of the period.
Students will search the internet for facts on American
Jazz Music and listen to excerpts from “Mood Indigo”
Evaluation:
Appropriate answers as it relates the worksheet
followed with class discussion.
Follow Up:
Continue with a American Jazz Music timeline
with developments/styles.
Include several other jazz composers and or
performers.
