Sibelius for creation of teacher-generated Flashcards.
Flashcards made from index cards.

Objectives:

Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of specific musical symbols.

Procedures:

Teacher will lead a review of musical symbols with student participation.
After the review, students will play a game. Teams will be chosen as the teacher sees fit. The first member of each team will sit in the “hot seat.” The teacher will hold up the first flashcard. The first student (in the “hot seat”) to answer will receive a point for their team. After their turn, those two students will then go to the back of their team and each team members will move forward one chair. This helps keep all students engaged and moving. The game continues until the teacher sees fit to end it. This can be played with note names, rhythms, etc.

Evaluation:

Success is seen through participation and the answers students give.

Follow Up:

Students can find these symbols and notes in their band pieces and tell the measure number where the elements are found.
